Essex Squash Racquets Association Essex Senior Closed  Championship 2024 18th Jan 2024 to 21st Jan 2024 Lexden Rackets and Fitness Club Chitts Hill Lexden, Essex CO3 9ST Lexden Rackets & Fitness Club is delighted to host the Essex Senior County Championship once again. We can’t wait to showcase the best of squash in our region. This would not be possible without our sponsors, Millane Contract Services Ltd, and Karakal - Entry is open to Essex residents or those who were born in Essex. - Draw categories available are Mens A, B, C, and Improvers plus Ladies A and B. - Mens and Ladies A events carry a prize pot of £500 each - Winner will receive £250, R Up £150, 3/4 £75 and £25 - Essex Squash have confirmed County Team selection will be based on results of the Closed.  Recommended levels for the Open draws are A – Premier & above, B – Div 1 & below, C – Div 2 & below, Improvers -New to Competition  Masters Draws available are Mens and Ladies O35, O40, O45 , O55,O 65, O70  and O75. - Depending on draw sizes some categories may be rolled together, or an extra category may be created.- Depending on draw sizes some matches may need to be played on Thursday 18th January. Where an earlier start is required, players will be given the option to agree to play at a venue and on an earlier day of their choosing if they cannot play on the Thursday.- For every draw there will be a main draw and a plate, so every player is guaranteed at least 2 matches.- Entry is £20 for one draw or £30 for 2. A T shirt is included.- Players can enter up to 2 draw categories.- Entry deadline is Mon 31st December 2023. Played over a week at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, the event began with the individual championships. 18-year-old Californian Mariam Kamal, winner of the Pan American Junior Championship title last month, claimed the women's title in an all-USA final against Haley Mendez - both players having eliminated the top two seeds in the semi-finals. A tough men's final which went the full distance saw unseeded Leandro Romiglio upset second-seeded Mexican Arturo Salazar 9-11, 11-4, 3-11, 12-10, 12-10 to become Argentina's first men's champion since 2004. Salazar recovered to take gold in the Men's Doubles event, partnering Eric Galvez to an 11-5, 11-2 win for Mexico over Chileans Rafael Allendes and Sebastian Gallegos in the final. Chile took gold in the Women's Doubles, however, where Giselle Delgado and Anita Pinto upset Nayelly Hernandez and Luz Sarahi López Dominguez, the No.2 seeds from Mexico, 11-8, 6-11, 11-10. Argentina scored a sole gold in the championships when Antonella Falcione and Gonzalo Miranda progressed from a mighty upset over the top seeds in the Mixed Doubles semi-finals to win the final 11-7, 9-11, 11-4 over Colombians Catalina Pelaez and Erick Herrera. Team USA (pictured above) were victorious over Argentina in the men's team final and against Mexico in the women's climax - both ties going the full distance and Mariam Kamal leading the women's team to become the only double gold-medallist in the 2016 PanAm Championships.
